The Iowa Hawkeyes have tumbled to 19th in the latest ESPN/USA today coaches poll after Saturday’s 20-10 loss at Michigan State. The Hawkeyes committed 10 penalties for 100 yards and turned the ball over four times in seeing their Big Ten winning streak end at ten games. He says they’ve won the turnover and special teams battles until the game Saturday, and it cost them. Fred Russell had 122 yards of rushing but mistakes prevented threw Hawkeyes from putting together lengthy drives. He says they never got into a rhythm offensively and they were down some receivers which he says didn’t help.The Iowa defense recovered after a shaky start. Spartan quarterback Jeff Smoker hit on 13 of his first 14 passes as Michigan State scored touchdowns on its first two possessions. The Hawkeyes will try to bounce back this weekend at home against 11th-ranked Michigan.
