The wife of a member of the Mason City-based 1133rd Transportation Company was arrested Saturday for possessing a gun on school property while at the troop’s welcome home celebration. Mason City police responded to the Mason City High School campus where the 1133rd’s homecoming celebration was taking place after receiving reports that 47-year-old Catherine Deetz of Charles City may be hostile towards her husband, Specialist Larry Deetz, and was carrying a weapon. Police say they found a 44-caliber handgun in her vehicle and was taken into custody after becoming belligerent. Deetz was charged with carrying a concealed weapon on school property and interference with official actions. Carrying a weapon on school property is a Class D felony which carries a maximum prison term of five years and a 75-hundred dollar fine.
