A Marion man will serve a longer sentence after being caught with drugs while awaiting sentencing on a drug conviction. 37-year-old Cliffton Emmeridge was convicted of conspiracy to possess ingredients to make methamphetamine, and distributing and manufacturing meth. At his sentencing in federal court, Emmeridge admitted that in November of last year while on pre-trial release, he cut off an electronic monitoring bracelet and fled the area. That was violation of instructions given by his probation officer. He was then arrested in Des Moines in possession of about two pounds of marijuana. Emmeridge was sentenced to 188 months in prison, and will run concurrently with a five-years sentence involving the marijuana charges.
