A train carrying coal derailed east of Chilicothe in Wappello County last night, causing problems for passenger trains. Burlington Northern Railroad spokesman Steve Forsberg says the derailment involved 42 cars of a 110 car train. The accident shut off east and westbound rail traffic and a county road. He says they hope to have one line open later this afternoon. The line also serves as the main route for Amtrack’s California Zephyr. Train passengers have been transferred to buses to finish their trip.
