Pilot error has been tabbed as the cause of a fatal plane crash near Orange City last year. The pilot, 51-year-old Wesley Huisman of Orange City, and his passenger, 51-year-old Wayne Keizer of Mesa, Arizona, died in the crash. Huisman’s small plane went down in a farm field six miles northeast of Orange City on October 3, 2003. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the pilot didn’t keep a safe distance from treetops when he was flying at a low altitude. The plane was found in a near vertical positon on Huisman’s father’s farm.
