Governor Tom Vilsack will again ask lawmakers to tack the state sales tax on more services — like landscapnig and accounting — that are not subject to the five percent sales tax today. Vilsack made a similar proposal last year, but legislators balked. Vilsack says legislators’ main concern was increasing taxes, so he’s now proposing a reduction in the state’s five percent sales tax at the same time more professional services would be covered. “It wouldn’t be a tax increase,” Vilsack says. “It would be in our view a fairer and better system than the one we have today.”
