Icy roads may’ve led to a fatal accident near Cedar Falls today (Wednesday). A spokesman in the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department says 65-year-old Viola Dressman of rural Cedar Falls died when her van left the road west of the city are eight a.m. today. Light freezing rain was falling at the time of the crash, but authorities haven’t determined the cause of the accident. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tony Thompson says deputies have responded to more than 30 accidents and vehicles in the ditches since one p.m. Tuesday. Icy conditions forced officials to close a five mile stretch of U.S. Highway 218 between Waterloo and Cedar Falls early this morning until a D-O-T truck could spread salt on the icy surface.
