The state Racing and Gaming Commission is holding a public hearing in the Des Moines area today on possible new gambling licenses. The panel is hearing comments from people who are not directly involved with the ten groups that are seeking new casino licenses. There’s no time limit for the speakers and so far the commission has heard pitches for and against three proposals from Black Hawk County and Waterloo. They’ll continue until they hear comments on each proposal and then they plan to discuss possible action on awarding new licenses.
