With a season under his belt Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer would like to be considered one of the top signal callers in the Big-12. A lofty goal considering the league includes quarterbacks like Vince Young at Texas, Reggie McNeal at Texas A@M and Missouri’s Brad Smith. He says it’s a challenge with all the good players out there, but he says he doesn’t see any reason why he has to wait for them to graduate before he becomes one of the best in the conference. Meyer won the job last year and finished the season with ten touchdowns and six interceptions in leading the Cyclones to a share of the North Division crown and a victory in the Independence Bowl. Meyer says he grew more confident as the season progressed as he says there are a lot of things to get control of and says a big key is focus. He says when things go bad or good, you have to keep a level head and keep the team in the game.Iowa State opens this season September third at home against Illinois State.
