The power’s back on for a large part of Grundy County following a major power outage in Northeast Iowa this morning. Spokesman Scott Drewzinski of Alliant Energy says nearly 16-hundred-50 customers lost electricity around 6:45 this morning, when a transmission line near Dike went down. The outage left the communities of Dinsdale, Dike, Holland, Morrison and Reinbeck without power , as well as part of Grundy Center. Drewzinski says power was restored to most of the customers about an hour later. The city of Dike was without electricity until around nine A.M. Alliant officials don’t yet know what cause the utility line to go down, but Drewzinski says it’s not uncommon for line to expand and contract in the weather — something that caused a similar outage near Dubuque yesterday. Today’s outage cause classes to be canceled at the Dike-New Hartford schools.
