Five Iowa towns are joining together in launching a marketing plan aimed at keeping jobs in America instead of outsourcing them overseas. Algona, Harlan, Mount Pleasant, Oelwein and Osceola have created an initiative called “Offshore Iowa,” in which the towns will market themselves to companies that may be looking to move jobs to places like China, India or Mexico. The hope is that the companies will choose to bring those jobs to Iowa instead. The towns are working to make space available to meet high-tech needs of potential companies. Officials say a labor study has been completed, and the towns are now in the process of identifying cities and businesses to target in their marketing blitz.
