Authorities in Northwood in north-central Iowa have issued a missing child alert for an 11-year-old girl. State officials have been called in to help and Steve Bogle, assistant director of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, says the child’s name is Katie Jean Krauth.

Bogle says they have few other details. He says the child was taken from her mother and they’re working with local and Minnesota authorities to try and locate her. Bogle says the girl was taken from her home in Northwood around 1:43 a-m in a White Mercury Marquee four-door car. He says they don’t know who took the girl.

Bogle says they have not issued a nationwide Amber Alert, but it is something they will consider. Bogle says they’re trying to “firm up some additional information” so they have the proper information if they issue an Amber Alert. Krauth is described as being white, with brown hair, brown eyes, five-foot-two inches tall and 80 pounds. Krauth was last seen wearing a blue tank top with blue jeans and flip-flops. Anyone with information on the girl is asked to call Northwood Police at 642-324-3640.
