Forecasters say parts of Iowa will likely see severe weather later today. Meteorologist Frank Boksa, at the National Weather Service, says a strong storm system is moving toward Iowa from the west, while a cold front is heading down from the north.

Boksa says the fronts will collide late this afternoon and tonight, forming thunderstorms with plenty of moisture and the potential for heavy rainfall. He says there’s also the possibility of tornadoes, though there have been no twisters confirmed in Iowa yet this year.
