A judge could double the prison sentence for 31-year-old Waterloo man convicted of defrauding the U.S. Department of Education. Earlier this year Roy Lee Turner of Waterloo was sentenced to five years in a federal prison for financial fraud. He now faces another charge, one count of failing to surrender for service of a federal sentence.

Turner had been ordered to show up on May 21st to be transported to prison, but he failed to surface. This spring Turner admitted he was part of a scheme to get more than $143,000 in federal student aid, but little of the money was spent on tuition or college costs.

Turner, who is now in federal custody, faces up to five more years in prison for failing to turn himself in to authorities in May.
