The University of Iowa has revised its plan to give away free tuition to some students who purchased season football tickets. The original plan would have selected 5 students who bought season football tickets to received $8,000 in tuition expenses, but it was suspended after concerns were raised about whether the plan met the requirements of the state’s rules for raffles.
The revised plan approved by the Johnson County Attorney and state Attorney General will give 5 students who bought season tickets a chance to win the tuition money, and it will also allow those who did not want to buy a season ticket to enter the drawing through an e-mail to the U-I ticket office. “We are pleased the Johnson County Attorney and the Office of the Attorney General have approved our revised plan,” Rick Klatt, associate athletics director for external relations says in a statement from the school.
Students must either purchase tickets or send an e-mail to the ticket office asking to be in the drawing by 5 p.m. today. Students can send an e-mail to [email protected] with “Tuition” in the subject line and provide their name and telephone number in the body of the e-mail to be included in the drawing for the free tuition.
The university says any student who bought a ticket after the first plan was announced and wants a refund can request one. The U-I Athletic Department said it has received 1 request for a refund. Students were first offered the opportunity for a refund last Friday.
