A northwest Iowa man was seriously injured in Plymouth County on Saturday while participating in the opening day of pheasant hunting season. Eighteen-year-old Ross Arens of Remsen, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after receiving a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Arens was crossing a creek and was handing his shotgun to another member of his hunting party when the gun discharged. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is still investigating the incident.
