Two people were injured in separate hunting accidents this weekend. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a Dallas Center teen accidentally shot himself in the leg while setting traps and squirrel hunting. Fourteen-year-old Benjamin Beavers was coming out of a ditch when his gun went off and hit him in the leg. He was taken to a Des Moines hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The other accident involved an Ames man who was deer hunting. The DNR says 39-year-old Michael Ylonen fell around 25 feet from a tree stand. He had a safety harness, but it had not yet been attached when he fell. The DNR says Ylonen suffered serious injuries to his upper body, but was still able to call for help and was taken to the Ames hospital.
