GavelThe Iowa Court of Appeals says a Johnson County man’s sentence should be refigured to include time he spent in jail in Wisconsin.

Mark Dotson was found guilty of first-degree robbery in Johnson County in 1999. He was returned to Iowa after being caught and convicted of robbery in Wisconsin that same year.

Dotson was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Iowa. He was sent back to Wisconsin to serve his sentence there before returning to Iowa.

Dotson then field an appeal saying he should be given credit and have the time served in Wisconsin taken off his Iowa sentence.

The district court agreed, but the state appealed that ruling. The Iowa Court of Appeals upheld part of the time served in Wisconsin to be taken off his sentence and asked the district court to look at another time period he was in Wisconsin to determine if it should also be taken off his Iowa sentence.
