A bill which would make it easier to prosecute those who use the “date-rape”drug has cleared the Iowa House. Last year, lawmakers changed the law tomake it illegal to slip a date a “roofie” — a drug which has a knock-outpunch. This year’s bill deals with instances in which someone presents thedrug to their date, but may not reveal its power to render them unconscious.Representative Galen Davis, a republican from Ottuwma, is a policeman.Davis says a few “date rape” cases have run into roadblocks — such as a casein which the victim was mislead on the affect of the drug.Davis says it should be classified as rape anytime the victim is unconsciousduring sex, regardless of the circumstances.
