Storms drop hail and heavy rain

Lightning is lighting the skies as severe thunderstorms rumble across thestate. Madison County was hit with hail more than an inch in diameter thismorning and it piled up a few inches deep in some areas. St. Charles FireChief Rick Schaffer says the hail almost made it look like snow had fallen.Schaffer says there’s no significant damage reported and no injuries. LeroySonger lives near Winterset & says the hail came down hard and fast.Songer says his wife called in that she’d be late getting to work becauseshe didn’t dare pull the car out of the garage and into the deluge of hail.Forecasters say the storm system is moving north & east, bringingpotentially severe weather & locally heavy rain.
