Drake unveils new track

A week before the 90th running of the Drake Relays, school officials unveiledthe new Jim Duncan track inside Drake Stadium. The new surface was installedafter heavy rains last June forced a large section of the old track to sink.Drake Athletic Director Lynn King says the surface is state-of-the-art,though the process has remained much the same.King says if they want to draw elite athletes, a state-of-the-art track is agood place to start.King says they also took the opportunity to make some major improvementsby increasing the size of the high, long and triple jump areas. Relays Director Bob Ehrhart says there was never any doubt the new trackwould also be blue.The Drake Relays begin next Friday.
