Tax filers get some relief

April 15, 1999 By admin

Taxpayers who’re mailing their federal returns in Des Moines at this latehour will be handed a little free medical help to cure their physical andfinancial ills. Given the billions of hours and dollars Americans spend ontheir taxes, some argue that this season brings us one gigantic nationalheadache. In response, the National Federation of Independent Businesses ispassing out free packets of aspirin. David Brasher runs the Iowa Chapterwhich -had- tried to get petitions for tax reform signed at the post office.Along with the free aspirin, Brasher & his staffers will also be passing outeducational materials about the group’s campaign for tax reform. The Federation has already collected more than one million signatures on apetition urging Congress & the President to chuck the current tax code andreplace it with a simpler, fairer system.
