Brother of teacher speaks out on shooting

A West Des Moines Dowling teacher who was shot in the stomach last night byhis son is improving and has been upgraded to fair condition at a Des Moineshospital. Police say 36-year-old Mark Neal was shot in the stomach at his Des Moines home with a sawed-off shotgun by his 17-year-old son David Neal.Mark Neal’s brother Brian spoke with the media today about his brother’scondition.Brian Neal says the shooting developed out of a dispute that went too far. Hedidn’t know what started the dispute. He says David Neal was adopted out offoster care and has had a tough life. David Neal was seen wearing a trench coat similar to the ones worn by thestudents who carried out the shootings in Colorado. Brian Neal doesn’tbelieve the Colorado situation was any part of the shooting of his brother.Neal says somehow the dispute got too much for David Neal to handle, butsays he really thinks the teen tried to do the best he and should be shownsome compassion. David Neal faces several charges including assault withintent to commit murder.
