More than 650 state & community leaders from across Iowa are in Des Moinestoday for a conference on how to be positioned for success in the newmillennium. One speaker at the “Smart Economic Development Conference” saysthe current farm crisis isn’t going to last much longer.Keynote speaker Bob Treadway is a business futurist and strategic planner.He says Iowa’s low unemployment rate is an advantage AND a problem. No onewants a high jobless rate, but new businesses won’t move where they can’tget workers. Treadway says two new groups will soon hit Iowa’s workforce.Treadway says the best course for Iowa is to not focus on either agricultureor technology — but to welcome both and continue to diversify.
