Shirley Jones returns to Mason City

Marion the Librarian is finally back in River City. Singer and actressShirley Jones performed Friday night at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake aspart of a fund raiser for the Mason City Foundation. The last time Joneswas in the area was 37 years ago when she attended the world premier of “TheMusic Man” in Mason City. Jones still sees the popularity of “The MusicMan” as she tours across the country.Jones was excited to be performing at the Surf Ballroom which has a historicpresence in the music world.Jones says coming to Mason City in 1962 is a treasured memory for her.Jones was asked is she had to cast a version of “The Music Man” today whatactors would she choose for the production, she said she wouldn’t change thecast.Jones is also serving as the Grand Marshall for the North Iowa Band Festivalparade which is being held in Mason City on Saturday morning.
