Program targets driver safety

Another summer driving season is fast approaching — this week law officersacross Iowa will be involved in a Special Traffic Enforcement Program or”STEP.” Jan Goldsmith, spokeswoman for the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau,says the enforcement program aims to make Iowa’s roads safer for everyone.She says STEP has had a positive influence on Iowa motoristsas over the past few years of STEP programs, seat belt usage in Iowa hasedged up from 73 to 77 percent.
