Black Hawk county approves sales tax

Black Hawk County voters DID approve a one-cent local option sales taxTuesday.The extra penny will go toward school repairs & infrastructure, passing by a53-47 percent vote. Cedar Falls & Waterloo residents already pay an extrapenny sales tax for street repairs, so their total tax will be 7 cents onevery dollar spent. Waterloo School Superintendant Arlis Schwartendruber waspleased with the vote’s outcome.Cedar Falls School Board member Tom Reisetter say it’s a great day foreveryone in the county. He adds it’s still unclear how his city’s share ofthe tax money will be spent.The new tax is expected to generate 88-million dollars over ten years.
