A hostage standoff at a Council Bluffs motel ended last night with thegunman dead and two people wounded, one of them a policeman. Police say24-year-old Rosendo Hernandes was wanted for the fatal shooting of a womanin Omaha yesterday morning. He was holed up in a room at the Chalet MotorLodge. Authorities say another woman was shot at the hotel.Council Bluffs Police Lieutenant Monty Montagne says the gunman shot andkilled himself, though it HAD earlier looked like there’d be a peacefulending to the incident.The police officer who was shot was hit in the shoulder and has been treatedand released from a Council Bluffs hospital. The woman who was shot at themotel is unidentified but is listed in fair condition. Police say the gunmanshot and killed his ex-girlfriend yesterday morning at an Omaha meatpackingplant. She is identified as 22-year-old Ana Martinez.
