A former Buena Vista two-sport standout is in Dallas, Texas to be inductedinto the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Jeannie Demers Henningsen graduated from B-V in 1987 and was a four-time academicall-american in softball and basketball. She says she is honored to be partof tonight’s ceremony.Coming out of Albert City High School, Henningsen turned down offers to playsoftball at Iowa and Creighton and felt Buena Vista was a better fit.Henningsen graduated with a four-point grade point average and also becamethe nation’s all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball whichincludes all levels. She tallied 3,171 points, a record which still stands.Besides her basketball record, Henningsen also drove in the winning run inBuena Vista’s 1984 national softball championship. She is currently a thirdgrade teacher in Alta and is the head volleyball coach at Alta High School.
