Iowa mayors attend national meeting

The summer meeting of the U-S Council of Mayors wraps up today in NewOrleans. Cedar Rapids Mayor Lee Clancey is at the meeting. Clancey says areasknown as “brownfields” are getting a lot of discussion.Clancey has worked to develop the brownfields in Cedar Rapids. She says akey step is analyzing the contamination at the site.She says there’s also been discussion on a sales tax for the internet.Waterloo Mayor John Roof is also at the conference. He says the mayors areexchanging a lot of information on rebuilding their communities.Roof says he’s been able to add to the discussion with the steps his city istaking.Roof says the future of kids and families in communities is at the center ofthe discussions on rebuilding.
