Senator Harkin upset over handeling of Ag Bill

June 17, 1999 By admin

While supporting the result, democrat Iowa Senator Tom Harkin shamesrepublicans for their tactics on an 8-billion dollar emergency farm aidpackage. Republican Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley signed a letter to PresidentClinton urging him to back the bailout. Harkin says the package contains oneof -his- amendments which was consistently rejected by the G-O-P.Harkin says the republicans recently added 18-BILLION dollars to PresidentClinton’s defense spending plan. Harkin says it makes no sense for the partyto be asking for Clinton’s support now for farmers. The Hawkeye State could gain 800-million dollars in the emergency farm aidbill which Congressional leaders say may win approval this fall.
