Nussle says Iowa City VA hospital safe

June 29, 1999 By admin

Iowa Congressman Jim Nussle says he’s been assured the VeteransAdministration Medical Center in Iowa City will not close. Nussle says the Veterans Administration answered his inquiries about thefate of the hospital by sending him a letter saying the agency will NOTclose its doors. Nussle, a republican from Manchester, says there havebeen persistent rumors about the possible closing of the Iowa City Centersince the announcement of the V-A budget in April. Nussle says a recentsurvey showed there would not be a significant cost savings if patient carewas transfered from the Veterans Center to the University of Iowa Hospitalsand Clinics. Nussle says this is one of the reasons the V-A has decided notto close the Iowa City veterans hospital.
