Starting today, one of the largest daycare centers in Newton is on “probation” over its finances. Tuition at the day care, which is run by Newton’s School District, has been hiked 12 percent. The daycare was started in 1992 and has run up a 400-thousand dollar debt. Fifty kids enrolled, full-time, at the center. Newton Superintendent Phil Hintz says even with the changes, the daycare may not be able to overcome all hurdles.
