O’Conner plays Senior Open with a purpose

Ireland’s Christy O’Connor hopes momentum is on his side when the U-S SeniorOpen begins Thursday morning in Des Moines. With a final round of 67 on Sunday, Oconnor picked up his first victory om American soil, claiming the State Farm Seniors classic in suburban Baltimore. O’Connor was pleased with his final practice round and afterwards said while the sport of golf can be humbling, momnentum can be a factor. Not only waslast week’s victory special because it was his first in the U-S, it wasalso one O’connor dedicated to his 17-year-old son, who was killed in anauto accident last year. Christy O’Connor says the course will be difficultthis week and making pars will be the key.O’Connor says after winning last week, he has a lot of confidence.
