Cyclone slugger seeks Pan Am gold

Iowa State University’s all-time homerun hitter in softball swings for PanAmerican gold this weekend. Erin Woods is competing for Canada’s NationalTeam in hopes of landing a spot on the 2000 Olympic team. Woods will playoutfield during the tournament.Woods hit over .300 while on Canada’s national team at the World’scompetition but she says she’s not a shoe-in to make the Olympic team.The Canadians finished fifth at last year’s World’s competition and areamong the favorites to win gold at the Pan Am games. The U-S and Cubanteams are the two other contenders. Last night, Canada beat the Bahamas sixto nothing. Woods hit a home-run in that game and went one-for-four at theplate.
