Iowa farmers can get some help from the state in dealing with the legalproblems of the farm crisis.Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver says the state has set aside400-thousand dollars to fund the “Legal Services of Iowa Farm Project”. Free legal help is available to farmers who qualify. To sign up farmers cancall the legal services offices in Council Bluffs, Des Moines and CedarRapids. To qualify, farmers must have received less than 20-thousanddollars in taxable income in the past year and must have debts greater than50-percent of their assetts. Culver says farmers in the program also must beunable to get legal help from any other source.
