Woodward Granger upset in title game

At the state high school softball tournament last night, Trisha Boyce drovein the winning run with a double to the center field fence as second rankedAlburnett rallied for three runs in the seventh to stun top ranked anddefending champion Woodward-Granger in the class 1-A title game.Boyce says the Pirates were confident leading into the game.It was Woodward-Granger’s fifth straight appearance in the championship gameand the fourth time they have finished as the runner-up. Sixth ranked Des Moines Lincoln won the 3-A title with a 4-0 victory over11th ranked Fairfield. It marks the school’s first state championship in agirls sport. Lincoln pitcher Lisa Birocci through the third straightshutout at the tournament and helped her own cause with a three run homer.
