Candidates put on final push for straw poll votes

Republican presidential candidates are flooding the state this week, workingto get supporters lined up for this Saturday’s Iowa Republican Party StrawPoll in Ames. One of the candidates, Elizabeth Dole, spoke this morningbefore the Iowa Society of Human Resources Managers, and she signed up a fewnew supporters who’s never participated in the Straw Poll before.Dole says the Straw Poll is an important tune-up for the Caucuses.Most of the candidates are striking at the front-runner in the race, GeorgeW. Bush. Dole says she refuses to be distracted by the media hype aboutBush’s huge, 37-million dollar campaign war chest.Dole says she hopes to “break the glass ceiling” by becoming the first womanpresident.
