The clean up and damage assessment continues in Council Bluffs andsurrounding communities in Pottawattamie County todayfollowing weekend flooding. Pottawattamie County Emergency Services DirectorTerry Hummel says twelve or more inches of rain fell on Council Bluffs andthe surrounding area. He says innitial estimates show at least one thousandhomes suffered flooded basements and that total could climb. The county engineer estimates damage to county roads at 690-thousand dollarsworth of damage. Hummel says 26 businesses reported major damages. A cardealership was one of the worst hit with estimated damage of two-milliondollars to cars on its lot. Hummel says the county is seeking state disasterfunds. Hummel says this ranks as one of the worst floods as far as thenumber of homes and businesses hit.
