The Northern Iowa football team finished last season with a five-gamewinning streak and a 7-4 record. But for the second straight year there wasno Gateway conference title and no playoff appearance and that isunacceptable in Cedar Falls. Third-year coach Mike Dunbar has high hopes forthis season.Dunbar says the five-game winning streak to close last season should helpthis team.Dunbar says the Gateway will be loaded.For the first time in seven years the Panthers have a returning startingquarterback. Ryan Helming took over after the second game of 98 when ToddGoebel (goh-bull) was injured. Helming says he improved as the season went on.Helming says the standout receiving corps make his job easier.The Panthers open the season September fourth at McNeese State.
