DNR approves special hunts to thin deer population

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has approved 14 special huntingseasons for deer. D-N-R spokesman Jim Jansen says the hunts will helpcut the over-population of deer in the designated areas.Jansen says the deer are causing problems by eating plants in urban areasand crops in rural areas.He says you can hunt in the special seasons even if you plan to hunt aregular season.There are special seasons set for Duqubue County, Black Hawk County, LinnCounty, Polk County, Backbone State Park, Elk Rock Park, Lake Panorama, LakeManawa Park and the Hitchcock Nature Area.
