Man survives cave in at Knoxville mine

A limestone mine near Knoxville caved in last night and trapped a miner aquarter-mile underground. John Bacon of Knoxville was rescued after 15minutes beneath the rubble. Marion County Sheriff Marv Van Haaften (HAF-tin)says Bacon is very fortunate.Bacon was helicoptered to a Des Moines hospital where doctors say he wasbattered but will survive. Knoxville Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Van Niewallsays it was Bacon’s co-workers who made the speedy rescue.The accident happened at S-and-S Quarries south of Knoxville.
