Boswell sponsors elderly victim bill

Iowa’s only democrat congressman is co-sponsoring a bill which calls forstiffer penalties for criminals who prey on the elderly. CongressmanLeonard Boswell of Davis City says bogus telemarketers, in particular,target Senior Citizens.Boswell says while violent crime is on the decline in the U-S, the elderlyare often victimized.Iowa Department of Elder Affairs director Judy Conlon sees an escalation inthe number of crimes which claim elderly victims.The bill is co-sponsored by Boswell and 24 other democrats. Withoutrepublican co-sponsors, it’s unlikely to be considered by Congress, which iscontrolled by Republicans.
