The Davenport woman who’ll represent the Hawkeye State in the Miss AmericaPageant next month is pleased with the easing of restrictions on how muchskin she can show. “Miss Iowa” Jennifer Caudle says she’ll be wearing atwo-piece bathing suit in the competition.The 21-year-old Caudle is a Princeton University graduate & cello player.The pageant has relaxed the guidelines, no longer requiring contestants towear one-piece swimsuits of certain styles and colors. Caudle says therealso used to be strict guidelines on the type of shoes the women could wearduring the swimsuit competition — but those restrictions are gone too.Caudle leaves next week for Disneyworld, where she’ll meet all of the othercontestants and have several days to explore the Orlando, Florida, themepark. From there, it’s off to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where the pageantwill be held September 18th.Only one other black woman has ever represented Iowa in the Miss Americacompetition. The first black Miss Iowa was crowned in 1970. Cheryl Brown wasalso the first black woman to represent ANY state in the pageant.
