September 10, 1999 By admin

The 47th meeting between Iowa State and Iowa is in Jack Trice stadium onSaturday night. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says no matter what happened in thefirst week of the season the Iowa-Iowa State matchup always carries greatimportance.Ferentz says darren Davis and Ennis Haywood both looked good for Iowa Statebut hinted they expect to see more of Davis.Ferentz says until the offense jells it will be very difficult to open it upwhen the Hawkeyes have the ball.Ferentz says the Cyclones kept it simple against Indiana State and feelsthey will see a lot more on Saturday.Iowa’s defense wore down in the loss to Nebraska and Cyclone coach DanMcCarney says which team can remain fresh will have the best chance.McCarney says they plan on using both Darren davis and Ennis Haywood.McCarney says while the Cyclones used primarily the ground game againstIndiana State, they will need more balance against Iowa. That means morepressure on Sage Rosenfels and Derrick Walker.Iowa State senior offensive lineman Bill Marsau (mar-saw) is from Hudson andsays the game means a lot to him.Marsau says last year’s victory was great but winning this game would beeven better.
