Snow, it’s in the forecast

October 1, 1999 By admin

Forget lions and lambs. October is coming in like, well, January. Nationalweather service forecasters say northern Iowans may awake tomorrow to ablanket of white stuff. Meteorologist Gary Forrester says a minor snow stormis now moving eastward over the Dakotas.Forrester, who works in the Metro Des Moines office, says any snow that doesfall will likely only be north of Highway 20. While temperatures areexpected to dip into the lower 30s tonight, he doesn’t expect any greatamount of snow accumulation.October first seems pretty early for snowfall, but Forrester says it’s notthat out of the ordinary especially for northern Iowa. The earliest snowfall on record for Des Moines was in the last week ofSeptember in 1985.
