Iowa’s future discussed in forum

The first of 15 town meetings to collect information about Iowa’s future washeld last night in Mason City, drawing more than 200 people. GovernorVilsack set up the “Iowa 2010 Project” which raised concerns about how thestate may look in a decade.David Oman of Des Moines is chairman of the 37-member strategic planningcouncil for the Iowa 2010 project. Oman says something has to be done tobring more people into the Hawkeye State.Mason City resident Vance Jorgensen says middle-sized towns are strugglingto find ways to make Iowa more attractive to young people who often moveaway after graduation.Topics discussed included increasing wages, urban sprawl and quality of life– as well as entertainment, or a lack thereof.
