Republicans will move caucuses

October 14, 1999 By admin

The Iowa Caucuses are being moved to January 24th. Iowa Republican Partychairman Kayne Robinson announced Republican caucuses will be held on thatdate rather than January 31st, which is the day after therecently-re-scheduled New Hampshire primary.Robinson says it was just unworkable to have the contests back-to-back.There would be no chance for a candidate to capitalize on a good showing inIowa — or recover from a poor showing. The chairman of the Iowa Democratic party tomorrow will ask the DemocraticNational Committee’s rules committee to approve moving the date fordemocratic caucuses to January 24th, too. Secretary of State Chet Culver calls the new date a “workable solution” tothe predicament. This is the 4th date change for the 2000 Caucuses, which have traditionallybeen the kick-off event of presidential campaigns since 1976.
