Service honors victims of violence

A candlelight service in a Webster City park last night was designed toremember Iowa women who’ve been killed in sexual assaults and throughdomestic violence. Joyce De Haan, the director of an outreach center based inFort Dodge says 87 women in Iowa have been killed by their partners in thelast decade.De Haan says during the one hour vigil, 400 women nationwide would bebattered. This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Another speaker was Mary Thomas,who works at the Wright County Clerk of Court Office in Clarion as anarea advocate for victims of domestic violence.A similar event is scheduled for tonight in Fort Dodge.
