Davenport man found incompentent to stand trial

November 3, 1999 By admin

The Davenport man accused of killing the three-year-old daughter of his ex-fiance has been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial. A clinical psychologist in Illinois says 30-year old Eugene Smith is suffering from severe depression. According to court documents, Smith stabbed Breanna Mose to death with a steak knife after an argument with the girl’s mother. The Bettendorf girl’s body was found in Smith’s car, abandoned in the Illinois Quad Cities. Smith could face the death penalty if he’s convicted. He’s currently being held in a mental facility in Illinois and will get another hearing in three months.
